What to Expect when Scheduling Surgery

Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to participate in your care.

Once you and your neurosurgeon both agree to move forward with surgery, you will be contacted by your surgeon’s surgery scheduler to initiate the scheduling process once they receive the surgery orders and dictation from your visit.  Please allow 5 business days for the surgery scheduler to contact you.

The Following Will Need To Be Completed Prior To Surgery

1

Clearance

If clearance from your Primary Care Physician or Cardiologist is required, surgery will be scheduled once clearance is received in writing. Please have clearance faxed to 979-207-7401. Patients are encouraged to contact their doctors’ office to make any necessary clearance appointments. Please contact our office to inform us of when your appointments/tests are scheduled.

2

Authorization

In most cases, authorization from your insurance is required prior to your surgery. Each insurance has a different timeframe and this may affect your surgery date. If we do not receive authorization before your surgery, we will need to reschedule. If you have worker’s comp insurance, authorization will need to be obtained prior to scheduling your surgery.

Your surgery might be scheduled and authorized as an outpatient/same day surgery. Decisions about staying the night or the length of stay in the hospital are between the patient and their physician and dependent on many factors.

3

Preoperative Appointment/Testing

Your scheduler will set up your preoperative appointment at the hospital prior to your surgery.  At your appointment, you will visit with the nurse who will review your medications and allergies and provide you with additional instructions for the day of your surgery.  You may also have additional testing that may include blood work, COVID-19 test, EKG, imaging and often a urine test. Patients do not need to fast for these tests prior to surgery.

If updated imaging (X-ray, CT or MRI) is needed prior to your surgery, these imaging studies must be scheduled and appointment information will be provided to you by the surgery scheduler.

If you have any questions, please contact our office at 979-207-7400.
